Are women allowed to give Bible studies, teach, preach, anoint, prophesy exhort, comfort, and use any and all Spiritual Gifts that God may give? Are there examples in the Bible of women doing any of these things? Did Christ preach and teach against women participating? Does God consider women "second class" Christians? In Matthew 28:19-20, does it say that only men are to follow Christ's instructions? Come and hear what Christ really has in mind for women! Come and Learn the TRUTH!

Frequently Asked Questions
About the =EQUAL to SERVE= Conference

  1. What are some of the topics that will be covered? Understanding Paul's Writings about Women, Jesus' Attitude towards Women, Women Leaders in the Bible, an interactive workshop on "Spiritual Gifts—What are they and what do I do with them?" and another participation workshop "Expressing Yourself Verbally" as well as other topics relating to women (and men) fully participating in their churches and serving Jesus Christ to the fullest! Also see the flyer for more information.

  2. Who are the presenters? Where are they from? What are their credentials? We have both male and female speakers and workshop leaders coming from several different states. Three are ministers and represent three different churches in three different states..

John Currier, pastor of the newly formed Douglasville Christian Community Church in the Atlanta area, will speak and lead a workshop on overcoming the fear of public speaking.

Dianne McDonnell, pastor of the Church of God, Dallas-Fort Worth will co-host a participating workshop on "Spiritual Gifts—What are they and what do I do with them?" and will speak on women leaders in the Bible.

One speaker has a doctorate degree and is coming from New York to speak on "Paul—Misunderstood Again!"

Pam Dewey, is an experienced speaker who has led workshops for Christian Educational Ministries. Pam is coming from Michigan and will speak on "History is Her Story too!"

Nona Meacham, an ordained minister with a "Sisters in Christ" ministry. She is from Georgia and will also lead the song service and give special music.

  3. I am male and would like to attend with my wife. Is that okay? Yes, you will be most welcome and many are attending as couples. We are not anti-men, or anti-anything, just pro woman, as Jesus was! We are for men using their spiritual gifts and serving Jesus Christ fully just as we are for women doing the same. Come and be welcome! (Single males are also welcome.)

  4. What is the conference format? We will have dynamic male and female speakers, participation workshops, a question and answer session, and also inspiring Pentecost worship services on Pentecost Sunday, May 27.

  5. Will I have free time to get to know the other participants? Yes, we are leaving some time open to get to know each other, establish friendships, exchange emails and address, and generally "network" with each other, and we also plan a luncheon on Pentecost Sunday. People will be coming from all over the United States so everyone will be making new friends.

  6. Is there a limit to the number of attendees? Yes, the limit is 250, so get your registration in as soon as possible.

  7. What is the cost? The registration fee is $20/person before May 1, and $30/person after May 1. (The fee goes toward the costs of the conference; it is not planned as a profit making event, but as a service event.) There is a registration form in the conference information in both PDF and HTML.

  8. Where is it held? Do I make room reservations separately? Yes. The Ramada Inn Six Flags in Atlanta offers a special discounted rate of $48 for a double room for those attending from out of town; room reservations can be made by calling (404) 691-4100. There is a restaurant at the hotel that serves lunch and dinner at reasonable prices, and there are other places are nearby for breakfast.

  9. What is the time frame? The conference will start Friday, May 25, 2001, at six in the evening and conclude at noon on Pentecost Sunday, May 27 followed by a luncheon.

  10. Again, what is the general purpose and mission of the =EQUAL to SERVE= Conference? The conference seeks to empower and encourage Christian women to use all the spiritual gifts that God has given them. In 1 Corinthians 12 the concept is clearly that everyone—male and female—receives a "spiritual gift" and all of these gifts must be used together in the churches. It has been the assumption for multiple years that the more public gifts cannot be given to women, and that women cannot teach men. We will examine and come to understand Paul's words and many of the scriptures about women serving Jesus Christ in leadership positions.

  11. How will it be different from other women's conferences? John Currier, pastor of the Douglasville Christian Community Church states, "For hundreds of years the misunderstanding of Paul's words has limited Christian women. Are women allowed to give Bible studies, teach, preach, anoint, prophesy, exhort, comfort, and use any and all Spiritual Gifts that God may give? Are there examples in the Bible of women doing any of these things?"

Mr. Currier continues, "Most conferences for women tell the older women that they are limited to teaching the younger women. Younger women are told that they can't teach anyone other than the children. Did Christ preach and teach against women participating? Does God consider women 'second class' Christians? The =EQUAL to SERVE= Conference is about encouraging women—and men—to be all that God has plans for them to be!"
